Our Approach

Mission

Allen Shulman established Northstar Homes in 1996 with a
mission to build distinctive custom homes on Chicago’s North
Shore in an open atmosphere based on trust, confidence, and
quality. Our success in this endeavor is showcased by our
portfolio of over 30 completed projects, as well as our reference
list that includes every single project with which we’ve been
involved. We will continue to base our growth on these qualities so
that all of our customers - past, current, and future - are proud to
call their home a Northstar Home.

Trust

We build trust by working with an open book and communicating
with the other members of the building team via proprietary reporting
systems. The open book and steady written communication enable
us to develop a trusting, non-adversarial relationship with homeowners, architects, designers, and landscapers throughout the building
process. From the beginning to the end of our projects, we treat each
professional like a partner, not an adversary.

Confidence

We build confidence by closely supervising each of our projects and
using quality tradesman that stand behind their work. Our experienced
site superintendents devote the time and resources necessary to
understand each of their projects prior to the commencement
of construction, and also to critically supervise the project once it has
begun. Our pool of approved subcontractors
benefits from this supervision, as well as our systematized approach to
scheduling. This system balances the desire to have the project
completed in the shortest possible time, with the understanding that
moving too quickly sometimes leads to chaos, not quality.

Quality

Quality is not solely reflected in each home that we build, but also in the
way we do business and the systems we have created to succeed in our
work. As a result, we proudly consider all of our past customers our friends
and list all of them on our Reference List.
